Neighboring Communities
The North Peninsula is surrounded by a cluster of desirable communities, all within a fifteen mile radius from Burlingame down through Redwood City.
Redwood City
Redwood City’s location in the heart of the peninsula is an excellent location for working in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Within close proximity to Atherton, Woodside and Stanford, the downtown is currently undergoing a major renaissance with a new movie theatre and shopping complex recently completed, as well as a new Whole Foods. The town is the county seat with courthouses and an array of county services, and has the only deepwater port on San Francisco Bay south of The City itself. Redwood Shores is part of Redwood City, although it is not possible to travel by road from one to the other without passing through the neighboring city of San Carlos. Redwood Shores is a serene and modern waterfront community located just east of 101. Though it is located on the eastern edge of Belmont, Redwood Shores is actually part of incorporated Redwood City. Filled with newer homes (last thirty years), Redwood Shores has a park-like classic suburban feel throughout, and it’s quite common to see residents jogging and meandering through its many lagoons and pathways. Nearly all of the homes and condos have beautiful wide water or greenbelt views, making the Shores a relaxing place to get away. Belmont
Belmont is a wonderful, serene town with a rural feel and a destination for families. Most of the streets do not have sidewalks, and since much of the town is built amidst the hills, many homes offer extraordinary views of the peninsula. Belmont boasts four parks, and is mostly made up of homes and retail stores. The town’s heritage harks back to William Ralston, the founder of the Bank of California and builder of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, who built his masterful summer residence, Ralston Hall, at the current site of Notre Dame University. Foster City
Foster City, which began its development as a planned community in the Sixties, was made for recreation. It boasts 19 parks made up of more than 100 acres, including many public tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields (used for many regional tournaments), basketball courts, and a levee along the San Francisco Bay which is a popular spot for runners, cyclists, and families (with grandparents!). Foster City also maintains an extensive 212-acre, man-made enclosed lagoon system, which provide superb water views for the homes and condos dotting the water’s edge.
