Baywood Elementary School

The community of students, staff and parents at Baywood Elementary School, located in the Baywood/Aragon neighborhood, share a commitment to the learning of everyone who attends the school.  The school is considered to be the best public elementary school in San Mateo. There is a rigorous academic curriculum, but they also provide experiences which embrace diversity and include fine arts, character development and social responsibility. The mission is for all members of the community to work interactively to create a love of learning in a safe, respectful and challenging environment.  The Lifeskills program, a social and emotional learning program develops good character and provides tools for empowerment. The Baywood PTA pays for some academic aides and resource teachers, and this allows teachers to work with smaller groups of students in various ways.  One example is the rotating groups.   Each classroom is split on a rotating basis, with half the class focusing on Math or Language Arts while the other half may be attending PE or the library.  These smaller groups allow the teachers to cover the curriculum and meet students’ needs.
